On October 20th, 2014, nearly two years after Rhode Islaand voters approved funding for a new veterans home, state leaders say the planning phase of the project has reached a milestone. Governor Lincoln Chafee, Senator Sheldon Whitehouse, and Congressman David Cicilline were among those on-hand for the status report on the New Veterans Home Project.
At the event, new renderings of what the state-of-the-art facility will look like were revealed. "We're making progress on what we knew is going to be the best home for veterans in the country," said Governor Chafee.
In November 2012, voters approved a $94 million bond referendum for the construction and renovation of the existing Veterans Home in Bristol. The Department of Veterans Affairs says groundbreaking for the new facility is scheduled to begin next year. The project is expected to be finished in 2018 and will house nearly two hundred residents.
The new home will be built on the grounds of the present Rhode Island Veterans Home in Bristol and will accommodate different levels of nursing care and expanded rehabilitation services along with an adult day-care facility. As an extension of the Rhode Island Department of Administration and RIVH’s organizational staff, Peregrine Group LLC (“Peregrine”) was chosen to serve as the Owner’s Project Manager for the multi-phase Project. Peregrine will be providing the RIVH with an experienced Team of professionals that have the requisite expertise and mutual level of trust for making informed recommendations relative to pre-design, design, construction, operations, budget and scheduling. Peregrine will serve as RIVH’s advocate for the duration the assignment.
The selection of the project team began in October 2013 with the State awarding contracts to Peregrine Group LLC and Brewster Thornton Group Architects (BTGA) in November. Peregrine was hired to serve as the Owner’s Program Manager acting as the States Representative. Peregrine provides third party real estate advisory work, development management, project management, and tenant representation services on behalf of property owners, businesses and institutions seeking to achieve specific facility, investment and operating objectives. BTGA is uniquely qualified to combine strong institutional and residential design to give our veterans a safe, comfortable, dignified place to live, while providing them with needed services and amenities.
